Encore ground breaking

A new project in Tampa promises to bring more than a thousand jobs to the Bay Area it's called encore. And it will soon take shape in a plot of land near downtown -- central park village used to be. Today's city leaders officially broke ground and as news generally its Chip Osowski tells us that is not the only big news that came out of the event.

that this ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony Tampa mayor Pam Iorio was joined by other city leaders and US representative Kathy castor. The groundbreaking is for -- and new apartment building for seniors in the new uncorked desperate. Named after former Tampa resident and composer. Ella FitzGerald. This is what used to be on this plot of land barracks style public housing called central park village. It was an area known for its bad elements. It was an area of the city was happy to put in its past. The mayor says this is an exciting time for Tampa for many reasons.

Will we -- and every possible obstacle he could run into -- not the least of which was a terrible recession. -- was somehow we've traveled this past and we've achieved and and look at where we are today the very first building out of twelve is going up.

Officials estimate the project will create 1000 permanent jobs.

And 4000 temporary jobs during the construction -- talking about construction jobs which we desperately need in the Tampa area that's one of the reasons wire unemployment rate is as high as it is.

Because so many people have lost construction jobs the other big piece of news that came out of this morning's event as we learned that Tampa is one of six communities nationwide. It's eligible to apply for another 61 million dollars for more affordable housing. Construction officially begins on -- in the next month -- In Tampa I'm simple cells eat and channel it.
